Coronary Angioplasty refers to a procedure used for reopening clogged arteries. Due to high levels of cholesterol, arteries become clogged, leading to cardiac arrests and other kinds of serious cardiac disorders if not treated in the initial stages. In this procedure, a catheter with a small metal balloon at one end is inserted into the affected artery. After reaching the affected spot, air is pumped into the balloon and it expands, breaking the obstruction. Generally, coronary angioplasty includes use of stents to keep the arteries open after the surgery. Apollo Hospital's cardiac center uses drug coated or normal stents in coronary angioplasty procedures. Its latest Philips Cath Labs are ideal for performing such complex procedures. |
